Birth of the Moravian Manchester
With the wool industry already employing over 10,000 people, new modern factories sprang up in the Cejl district after the city walls were torn down. Throughout the 19th century, other types of industry – notably mechanical engineering and food production – also developed gradually.

The first cooperative of Brno's bakers
The First Production Cooperative of Bakery Workers launched its activity. At its origin was a group of bakery workers who were unable to find employment in Brno because of their political views. The foundation of the cooperative was simultaneously an attempt to work under fairer and more equal conditions. The first production premises are found in today's Stará Street.
1910
The first achievements of the bakery cooperative
After difficult beginnings, when the new bakery business had to assert itself in tough competition, the cooperative was in the red and growing. This was mainly thanks to František Haluška, a competent manager and businessman, as well as the director of the bakeries between 1908 and 1938.

1917–1918
The cooperative buys real estate
For the planned construction of a new bakery, the cooperative bought the first real estate in what is now Pekárenský dvůr. First, it acquired houses at the addresses of Ceil 83 and Ceil 85, then it bought land towards Bratislavská Street. At the site of today's Pekárenský dvůr Residence, a new bakery and confectionery facility was set up.

New existence as Dělpe
The cooperative changed its name to Dělpe (an abbreviation for Workers' Bakery and Confectionery) and built new modern production facilities on the purchased land – ovens (1921), administration facilities (1922), a bakery and confectionery workshop (1925).

1925–1926
Department store construction
The construction of the new site culminated in the building of a showcase rental and department store towards Cejl Street. The distinctive building, designed by Eduard Göttlicher and builder František Václavek, is inspired by German Expressionism. Nowadays, it represents one of the gems of Brno's modern architecture.

František Haluška dies
After 30 years in charge of Dělpe, director František Haluška died. The management of the business was temporarily assumed by his brother, Karel Haluška, a long-time administration worker of the bakery and also the author of written recollections of the bakery’s early years.

1945
War damage and new prosperity
The bakery operations suffered greatly during the war raids and liberation battles. The cooperative went into national administration in 1945. Fortunately, the long-time employee Otto Mutl became its administrator, kick-starting the restoration of prosperity.

1954
Nationalization and establishment of South Moravian Bakeries
Dělpe gradually took control of more than 50 smaller bakery and pastry businesses in and around Brno since 1947. It was nationalized in 1954, resulting in the establishment of the South Moravian Bakeries. Their most important manufacturing plant was located in the area of today's Pekárenský dvůr.

1989
Path to privatization
After 1989, Jihomoravské pekárny transformed into Brněnské pekárny (1992), which was subsequently bought by the Hepek company in 1996 as part of the privatization process. The company was thriving, practically doubling the production volume between 1995 and 2005.
2016
End of bakery production
In 2008, the bakeries were acquired by the Penam group, which ended the production in Brno's Cejl in 2016 as a result of launching a new bakery in Rosice. And plans for residential construction at the site began to be made.
